New York City Economic Development Corporation
Prime Consultant / Contractor
Arcadis
To protect Lower Manhattan from the dual threats of daily tidal flooding and severe coastal storms, NYCEDC and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) are spearheading the FiDi-Seaport Climate Resilience Master Plan. This transformative effort, led by Arcadis with support from ONE Architecture & Urbanism, Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architecture (MNLA), and Johnson & Asberry Communications, envisions a reimagined waterfront that raises the shoreline by 3 to 5 feet and provides flood protection up to 18 feet above the current esplanade level.
As the project’s community engagement lead, Johnson & Asberry plays a critical role in connecting this complex climate infrastructure initiative to the public it is designed to protect. Our team works in close collaboration with NYCEDC, MOCEJ, Arcadis, ONE, and MNLA to design and implement an inclusive outreach strategy. From managing logistics and on-the-ground engagement to ensuring that all communications are accessible and culturally responsive, J&A ensures that community voices are heard and incorporated throughout the planning process.
